What is pit?
📌Personal Income Tax – a tax on personal income.
In case of official employment, taxes are paid by the employer on behalf of the employee.
📍However, in Poland this does not release you from the obligation to fill in the annual tax declaration for the previous year and submit it to the tax office.
📌PIT declaration – an annual tax return through which every person in Poland reports their income earned during the previous year.
Here are the main ones:
📌PIT-37. Submitted when the sources of annual income were: employment contract (umowa o pracę), mandate contract (umowa zlecenia), or specific-task contract (umowa o dzieło).
It is calculated by the employee independently on the basis of PIT-11 – an income statement prepared and issued by the employer.
📍Deadline for PIT-11 – by January 31
📍Deadline for PIT-37 – by April 30
Many people are afraid of the obligation to file tax returns. But it is worth understanding, because a correctly filled declaration can help you get part of your taxes refunded to your account.
📍For example, if you have children, if your workplace is in another city, or even if you have internet at home.
How to check how much you can get back and how to fill in the declaration?
The simplest option for those who don’t want to bother – use the e-pity app or the podatki.gov.pl website.
You can also just visit or call the tax office.
The tax refund is sent via postal transfer or to a bank account.
More about other PIT forms – in the next post.
This year I have to fill in a new declaration, ordinary e-pity will not be enough.
And you – have you ever filled in something other than PIT-37?
